Intervention, Libya, UN, War
Much so that I personally like war, every journalist does…and I am being brutally honest about it…I am not finding any arguement in favour of the military intervention in Libya. None at all. Two of my Op-Eds came out in Washington Examiner and The-Latest, where I argued why it is not wise to get sucked in Libya…
And I was not apparently the only one who had the same sinking feeling against this disastrous foolishness…
But anyways…its war now. French Jets have been pounding Libyan tanks, American and British forces raining Tomahawks…this looks like Iraq ’03. Only difference, in Iraq there was a fixed goal of toppling a dictator who had blood on his hands. Here it is against a dictator, who was fighting rebels…or hooligans and thugs and militias with massive weaponry…who he claims to have been supported by Al Qaeda, Iran, and the Crusader west. I would have laughed, had this been in a debate, but this is real…people are dying…on everysides, everyone is killing, fighting, and dying. For reasons uncharted, undetermined and unknown.
Forget the crusader part. It was known that Western forces would be known as Crusaders…that is the norm in any Middle Eastern conflicts…but what if, just what if, the rebels are actually supported by Al Qaeda? Or Iran? The thought and the prospects are dreadful…its like supporting the Talibans, and Pakistani proxies, against the Soviets…
Deja Vu…
Why did the overconscientious United Nations never said anything when there was a genocide going on in Rwanda? Or Darfur? And the protesters are being butchered in Iran, Bahrain, Yemen and Syria? Why not a single word on Chinese human rights abuse? Why not anything on North Korea when they constantly bomb South? I don’t have any answer to that…I don’t guess anyone does…
What would the global left and their posterboy of peace, Nobel prize winner Barack Obama justify his 360 degree turn? Infact how would anyone justify David Cameron’s anti Labour interventionist ideologies before elections, and Nicolas Sarkozy’s anti Russian intervention stand during Georgia now?
Power…the temptation was too high…
The position of China, Russia, India, and Germany was even more hilarious. They could have stopped this. If they wished. But they didn’t even take sides…any sides…
I just hope, this thing ends soon…the costs are too high, and the strain on moral justification of this hypocrisy, too heavy.
But I am not much hopeful. The World got sucked in another war…another meaningless war, for which History won’t be kind on us.
Happy Holi, everyone. Though I fear the colour this time is predominantly red. Blood red.
